The Respectable Mr Mark Coure MP, representing the NSW Premier;

Ms Jodi McKay MP, Leader of the Opposition NSW;

Mr Nick Lalich MP, Member for Cabramatta;

Mr Michael Ng, Electoral Officer of Strathfield Electorate Office;

Distinguish Guests, Local & International, Fellow Minnan Folks, Friends & Relatives , Ladies & Gentlemen, GOOD EVENING TO YOU ALL!

On this special evening while we dine and celebrate the 20th Anniversary & Changeover Gala Dinner of our Association, I feel greatly honoured to be able to express my sincere gratitude to the committee, fellow Minnans and relatives, who have all given their support and trust in electing me as the 10th President of the Australian Minnan Association Inc.

The Australian Minnan Association Inc. acts as a collective family for all Minnans and their relatives who migrated to Australia. We share a local dialect, accent, cuisine and lifestyle as well as many shared ideologies.

The Inaugural Committee Members has established this huge platform 20 years ago. The Presidents and Committee boards have all work very hard to develop, foster and expand the services we provide, and as a result, there are now over 1,000 fellow folk members presently.

During the period of time, our members have actively been involved with the activities and charity drives in support of large annual events like the traditional Moon Festival. They have strived to replicate Moon Cake activities, recreated cultural performances, provided delicious traditional banquets in order to give back our members and leave them with an unforgettable evening. The Incoming Committee Members will continue to maintain these traditions that these foundations have developed.

Also with the utmost support from Ms Bi Qing Hong, the Association’s Deputy Standing President, we have strived to establish a shared Function Room on our company’s premises for the use by the Association and our fellow folks. This can be used for general meetings and gatherings , as a conference room, function room and place of celebration which fully equipped with karaoke & dancing facilities. We also welcome everyone to join us on any occassions, and help to enrich the lives of our fellow folk friends & relatives, so that they can lead a more culturally rich life and to develop, maintain and promote Minnan culture in the beautiful city of Sydney.

In the traditional Chinese culture , respecting our seniors and cherishing our young is one of the most highly regarded virtue. Especially to Fujian and Minnan descendants, . we wish our elders can find happiness in the Association, and our descendants can obtain knowledge and encouragement about their cultural roots. As an ethnic community group in Australia, we also wish to provide assistance to the new immigrants and overseas students, to aid them in settling into our beautiful and multicultural community as well as give back to the wider community and country.

Everyone in these 20 years, the Australia Minnan Association has gone from a humble beginning with almost nothing, now we have achieved through the non-stop efforts from our ever increasing members, a reputation that only grows in recognition and renown. This was birthed from strong foundation and conference policy, and a sincere work attitude fostered within the traditional Minnan ideology and enacted upon by our founding committees. The idea shared by our members and fellow folks is ‘we win if we struggle’ and this has been a supporting pillar in every event organised by the Association and I believe with the support of the incoming Committee Members, the service we provide as a community will be brought up to a whole new level.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mr James Chan, Chairman of Australian Chinese Buddhist Society/Mingyue Lay Temple, who has given us his utmost support and thought, particularly in providing detailed effective guidance and assistance in the preparation for tonight’s event.

On behalf of the entire Australian Minnan Association Committees and Members, we like to extend our congratulation to Ms Jodi McKay MP, on her election as the Leader of the Opposition NSW, and we wish with her brilliant leadership, she will bring the Party to the best success. We thank her so much for taking time out of her busy schedule to join us and celebrate the event, she will always receive mine and the entirety of our communities support in her future endeavours.

Finally, I sincerely wish everyone of you enjoy the delicious food & drink tonight , as well as the fantastic performances and lucky draw prizes!

Thank you!

Mr Michael Ng, .
